Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know Before Taking Flight

FAQs

What types of scenic flights do you offer?

South Coast Seaplanes offers a variety of scenic flights, including tours over Montague Island, the Tollgate Islands, and the beaches around Tuross Head. They also provide themed experiences such as whale-watching flights (seasonal), oyster tours landing near oyster leases, and gourmet picnic flights to secluded beaches.

What happens if my flight is canceled due to weather?

Flights are weather-dependent. If conditions are not safe or enjoyable, South Coast Seaplanes will cancel or delay the flight. Passengers can choose between rescheduling or receiving a full refund.

What should I bring with me for the flight?

Passengers are encouraged to wear sensible footwear (or go barefoot if boarding from a beach) and dress comfortably. Bringing a camera or smartphone to capture the stunning views is highly recommended. If you’re prone to motion sickness, consider taking appropriate precautions and informing the pilot.

Are there any age restrictions for passengers?

Children of all ages are welcome. Infants under 2 years old can fly on the lap of an accompanying adult. Children aged 3 and older are likely to enjoy the flight experience fully.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?
  • Flights canceled by South Coast Seaplanes due to weather or operational conditions can either be rescheduled or refunded in full.
  • Passengers canceling 7 or more days before departure receive a 100% refund.
  • Cancellations between 2-7 days before departure receive a 50% refund.
  • Cancellations within 2 days of departure are non-refundable.
  • Any exceptions to the policy are at the discretion of South Coast Seaplanes management.
Can I customise a flight experience for a special occasion?

Yes, South Coast Seaplanes offers customisable experiences, such as gourmet picnic flights, romantic proposals, and themed itineraries like oyster tours.

Do you provide headsets for in-flight commentary?

Yes, advanced headsets are provided to keep noise levels low and allow passengers to communicate with each other and the pilot.

Will my feet get wet when boarding the seaplane?

Typically, no. We board from various locations, some with pontoons. Occasionally, if boarding from a beach with an unfavorable tide, you might get your feet wet. We’ll inform you in advance. Sensible footwear is recommended, or going barefoot is fine too!

Is it noisy inside the seaplane cabin?

Not really. We provide advanced headsets to keep things quiet and allow communication among passengers and with the pilot.

Will it be cold during the seaplane flight?

No, we usually fly at an altitude of 1,000 feet, where it’s only slightly cooler than on the ground. The aircraft has a heater, and you can ask the pilot to turn it on if needed.

Is it difficult to board the seaplane?

Getting into light aircraft can be challenging, especially for those with mobility issues. However, we’ve refined our boarding process to ensure everyone can fly comfortably. Taking our time is key.

Are meals or refreshments included in any of the flight packages?

Yes, some packages include gourmet experiences, such as picnics prepared by local partners like Les Gourmandises. However, meals are not included in all flights and depend on the package selected.

How early should I arrive before my scheduled flight?

Passengers are required to check in at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Are there any restrictions on what I can bring on the flight?

Baggage is only allowed by prior arrangement and must be inspected by South Coast Seaplanes staff. Personal items like wallets, cameras, and phones are carried at the passenger’s own risk.

Do you accommodate passengers with disabilities or special needs?

South Coast Seaplanes makes every effort to accommodate passengers with mobility challenges. Boarding light aircraft can be tricky, but the team takes extra time to ensure everyone can fly comfortably.

What wildlife might I see during the flight?

Passengers may spot a variety of marine animals, including dolphins, seals, and, during the season, whales. Flights over Batemans Marine Park often provide opportunities to see these animals in their natural habitat.
